A GED is your ticket to a better future, and therefore getting it quadruples your chances to better your life and those of your relatives. All that’s needed is a little bit of preparation, to propel you forward into the higher paying job you’d like or the opportunity to get a degree at a university.

The question then is: How do I get my GED, and how long would it take me to get a GED? Are these some of the many questions running through your mind right now? Well, if it is, rest assured, as we at Eduxonline have all the answers to those questions.

How long it might take you to get the GED largely depends on what skills and education you have. The qualification takes about 3 months to complete all dependent on how you’ve prepared for it. Some have completed it in a faster time.

Here is a step-by-step process to follow in order to get your GED.

1. Familiarize Yourself With the Test Questions

The GED is made up of four completely different exams. It is important that you prepare yourself well and make sure you know exactly what can be expected of you in the exams. Thorough preparation is the only way you can achieve good grades.

The topics you will write exams on are the following:

  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Reasoning through Language Arts
  • Social Studies
  • Science

The GED exams are not meant to be tests focusing entirely on memorized facts. On the contrary, these exams are meant to test your reasoning and analysing skills, as well as how you draw conclusions and present your answers.

2. Make Sure To Take Practice Tests

As in any learning environment where you have to take a test, practicing on previous testing material is a great way to get familiar with the real GED test. Through mastering these practise tests, you learn where your strength and weakness lie, and you also learn to recognize the format of the exam.

So, what you need to do is to take a couple of practice tests throughout your study process. This will also help you evaluate yourself and see how you’re progressing. GED has official GED Ready practice tests that you can find here.

In these GED Ready tests, GED will award you a red, green or yellow score, to show how likely you are to pass the real GED exam.

Once you’ve achieved a green score on your GED Ready test, and you feel confident that you’ve acquired enough knowledge on the material, you are ready to write the official GED exam in Namibia.

3. Schedule Your Test

In order to write the exam, you must schedule it online way ahead of time. The GED exams are not strictly tied to specific dates. Therefore, you can write them whenever the time suits you. Go ahead and choose a date and a time that is perfect for you.

The GED exams are also not required to be taken in one sitting. They can be taken separately, two at a time, first one and then three, whichever way suits you. It all depends on your preference and convenience.

Tests in Namibia are taken at the accredited Pearson Vue approved testing centre in Windhoek. In order to schedule your test do the following:

  • Log into your GED account
  • Choose which test subjects you want to take
  • Select the test date and time that works best for you
  • Pay for the test with a debit or credit card

4. Take The Test

It is perfectly alright to feel a bit nervous on the day you’re supposed to take the test. To help get rid of those nerves make sure you’ve eaten properly before you enter that exam centre. Very importantly, make sure that you’ve slept adequately the previous night.

In order not to arrive late at the test centre and thereby forfeit your chance of writing the exam, locate the centre before the time. Take a drive to make sure you know exactly where it is located. Also see where the nearest parking lots are so that you don’t drive around in desperation trying to find a parking spot.

On the day of the test make sure to review all the rules pertaining to the test. Bring along a light snack to eat during break times. Just following these guidelines will help set you up for success.
