What Is The GED?

The GED is a highschool equivalent diploma from the United States, recognized in Namibia. It allows you to enjoy the same benefits any other Namibian matriculated high school student would receive at tertiary institutions.
The Namibian Qualifications Authority have evaluated the GED, and found it to be comparable to a Certificate at NQF Level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework for Namibia.
That means that the GED is comparable to a Namibian Grade 12 certificate. Depending on how much schooling you’ve done, you could have your high school diploma within a short period of time. 

The Four Subjects

Maths
The GED® Mathematical Reasoning Test focuses on two major content areas:
▪ Quantitative problem solving (45%)
▪ Algebraic problem solving (55%)
Problem solving skills are measured in both academic and workforce contexts. In addition to problem solving, the test includes items that test procedural skill and fluency.
English
In alignment with career and college  standards, the GED® RLA (Reading And Language Arts) test focuses on three essential groupings of skills:
▪ The ability to read closely
▪ The ability to write clearly
▪ The ability to edit and understand the use of standard written English in context
Science
The GED® Science Test focuses on three major content areas:
▪ Life science (40%)
▪ Physical science (40%)
▪ Earth and space science (20%)
The test assesses key science reasoning, balancing conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency and the application of the reasoning skills to realistic situations.
Social Studies
The GED® Social Studies test focuses on four major content areas:
▪ Civics and government (50%)
▪ United States history (20%)
▪ Economics (15%)
▪ Geography and the world (15%)
Test assesses key social studies reasoning skills, balancing conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency.

What is The GED Qualification?

 The GED qualification is a high school diploma equivalent from the US.

What Is a GED Equivalent to In Namibia?

In Namibia the GED is equivalent to a Grade 12 certificate. The GED was evaluated by the NQA as a Level 4 qualification on the Namibian Qualification Framework.

How Are Tests Conducted?

Testing is conducted at a GED Testing Center on computer.

How Hard Are The Tests?

The tests are on par with high school standards, therefore the difficulty levels you have to master in a normal high school is the same level of difficulty you have to master for a GED diploma.

How Are The GED Tests Scored and What Is The Pass Rate?

The GED test is scored by computer. The passing rate on each test is set at a score of 145 out of a 200 score point.  

How Long Do I Have To Wait For My Scores?

 Scores are returned within a 24 hour period after completion of each subject.

What Happens If I Fail A Test?

The GED Testing Service will allow you to re-write the same subject two additional times without waiting, however after that you would have to wait for a 60-day waiting period between additional attempts. Although the test does not require you to have a particular grade before attempting a re-write it nevertheless will incur an additional fee for every re-write you want to take. The test score report will provide you with information about what you need to improve on.

What Form of Identification Is Needed To Write In Namibia?

You are required to provide any form of valid identification document also known as an ID. The ID must be government issued and not be expired. It must include your name, date of birth, signature, and photograph.
