If you are thinking of taking the GED, you might be having a lot of questions running through your mind regarding this certification.
What is the difference between the GED and the Namibian High School diploma? Do employers in Namibia know about the GED, and would colleges care about which one you have?
Also, are there any limitations regarding what you are capable of doing with a GED versus a high school diploma? We have the answers for you right here.
What Is The GED?
The GED consists of a GED credential and the GED test. The GED test has exams on four different subjects. These are Reasoning Through Language Arts (English), Science, Social Studies and Mathematical Reasoning (Maths).
Do these subjects sound familiar to you? Well they should be, because as a high school student you encounter them on a daily basis. If you have attended high school till around Grade 10, you should feel confident that you will be able to study and pass the GED exam.
After completing and passing all four GED exams, you are eligible to obtain the GED credential. This credential will be your diploma and will show that you have the same knowledge as a Grade 12 student in a school setting, even if you do not graduate from a school.

Is The GED Equal To A High School Diploma?
Yes, the GED is a high school equivalent diploma, and therefore it can be used to apply for admission to colleges or for a job, just as you would with a normal Namibian high school diploma.
Are you wondering what schools or jobs would accept the GED? There is good news. Over 98 percent of schools in the United States alone accept the GED, inclusive of colleges and universities.
If you are planning on studying in Namibia or South Africa, then rest assured as the Namibian Qualifications Authority has evaluated the GED and equated it to a Level 4 (Grade 12) equivalent qualification.
Some universities accept the GED coupled with a good SAT score. If you have these under your belt you have an excellent chance to get into any school you would like.
If you are ready to work, the GED is also an excellent certification to pave the way. Since the NQA approves of the GED, it makes it acceptable to apply to any job where a Grade 12 certificate is required. As long as you have the experience and skills needed for the job, you should not have a problem.
Which Option Is Right For You?
Obtaining a high school diploma ensures you adequate preparation for university or college studies and will pave the way for a career, however, this route might take a while to complete. People who dropped out of school during their teenage years, might not have the opportunity to attend school again.
On the other hand, GED graduates are able to prepare and earn a certificate in a few short months. That is the beauty of this high school diploma. No more waiting till end of the year for exams, or only taking 3 subjects a year for two years.
The test can be taken by anyone, no matter whether you are past the high school age.
